How a product is like a function
Ryan Singer introduces a new way of seeing products and product features as a simple
Input —> Process —> Output
equation. Framing your product or product features in this way is a good exercise in building clarity around the real value proposition and communicating it to others. What do you think?
Scenius, or Communal Genius
Scenius stands for the intelligence and intuition of a whole cultural scene. Brian Eno suggested the word to convey the extreme creativity that groups, places, or "scenes" can occasionally generate. It is the communal form of the concept of genius. When supported by a scenius, you act like a genius.Scenius can erupt almost anywhere:
- It can erupt in a corner of a company, in a neighborhood, or in an entire region
- The serendipitous ingredients for scenius are hard to control
- They depend on the presence of the right early pioneers
- Best you can do is NOT KILL IT. When it starts rolling, don't crush it.
- When it sparks, fan it. But don't move the scenius to better quarters
Culture is an emergent property of a bunch of people coming together, and so are scenes. You cannot plan for them, but once you see them forming, the best thing you can do is not to intervene in them in a top-down fashion.
