How to be Strategic
Being strategic isn't a checkbox of metrics, participating in discussion, or writing long documents. Strategy is a route to get from A to B.A good strategy:
- Achieves a particular objective (what looks like success)
- Has a set of actions (concrete plan)
- Is credible and coherent (believable and makes sense)
- Focuses on biggest hurdles (and focuses on those)
And most importantly, a good strategy aligns everyone in the team on what success looks like, what problem you're solving and for whom, and what makes you uniquely suited to solve that problem.
Getting the Bigger Role
Ambitious people want to see forward movement in their careers which most often translates to "getting the bigger role." That might mean promotion, becoming the team tech lead, switching to management, or growing into a manager of managers.
And the best way to earn the role is to start doing the role. Also, the bigger role is only effective if you're excelling at your current role.
In this essay, Brian Donohue (CEO – Instapaper) shows you exactly how you can make the above two things happen.
Success thru simplicity
"How do you know when you’ve reached that perfect point of simplification, and how do you get there?"
The author describes some great frameworks and principles you can use to achieve simplicity in your communication, marketing, and design.
